Search Engine Optimisation

We’re all familiar with using Google to search on the Internet, but how does Google know what pages to show us when we search? Why does my competitor’s site show up above mine?

The answer to this dilemma is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)? Very literally, it is optimising your page so that search engines (such as Google) can find, read, understand and index your site better so that it appears higher in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs).

I have someone building my website, why do I need SEO?

Building the website and optimising the website are two completely different things. Website creation involves putting your text and images on the page for people to see and read. SEO is less about the page content and more about the behind-the-scenes optimisations that help Google find, interpret and index your site. A web page that is optimised will show up higher in search engine results and help build your online presence.

Why Improve your Ranking?

A high Google ranking is the Holy Grail for websites as more people click on the links in position 1, 2 and 3 than any other links and the click-through rate (CTR) drops off very quickly from there on. Only a small percentage of people bother to click to Page 2 because of how well Google answers most questions with its first few search results. So, if you’re not on Page 1, you’re not really on the internet!

Technical SEO

Part of a good SEO process is to fix the Technical SEO issues that a site may have. Technical SEO deals with things like server settings, image compression and data caching. Many of these are one-off settings done on the server but there are optimisations that are made on each page also.

Just to show how much difference this behind-the-scenes work can make, below is a chart showing how many keywords a site ranked for before ODM completed the Technical SEO and the immediate effect that occurred after the Technical SEO was completed. Virtually no changes were made to the page content to achieve these results!

On-Page SEO

On-Page SEO ensures your website content has clear headings. Making sure the keywords that you’re trying to rank for are mentioned and explained clearly on the page. All these things add up to make it possible for Google to index your page correctly and for people to read and understand it easily.

At Open Door Marketing, our SEO process will fix every page on your site so you get the maximum boost in your Google ranking and more traffic to your website.
